Better Translator Pro 1.2.1 released!
As previously mentioned, Google Translate no longer allows unlimited free translations on its servers. Instead it offers a very small free quota (100,000 chars per day, per app - NOT per user!).
For the moment, we will limit each user to 2000 characters/day for Google Translate (and still unlimited for Bing Translator). This may need to be changed (up or down) later depending on how close the combined usage gets to the 100,000 quota.
It’s also worth noting that Google may one day in the future remove the 100,000 char free quota which means we would not be able to offer Google Translate at all.
This means that it no longer makes sense to allow the user to specify Google Translate as the default engine (and so this option has been removed from the Settings). Instead Bing is now the default. Should you wish to attempt a Google Translate translation you can do so by either:
- Long-press on the translate icon and select Google Translate from the displayed dialog box
or
- First perform a Bing translation and then press the translate icon a second time to perform a Google translation
Of course, this will fail if either you have used up your quota or the application’s general quota has been used up for that day.
This is the best we can do in this situation, but feel free to let us know whether we can do better.
Feel free to contact us if you have any further questions.
